Glideways in Central Victoria initiative news

Project Platypus finds threatened Squirrel Gliders near Dadswell’s Bridge. This adorable Squirrel Glider was spotted near Dadswell’s Bridge - it’s the first time in two years this threatened species has been seen at this location.

Our Biolinks Alliance team is partnering with local Landcare organisation, Project Platypus, to discover where Squirrel Gliders occur in the Northern Grampians region, between Dadswells Bridge and Deep Lead. The ultimate aim is to increase connectivity between patches of remnant Squirrel Glider habitat.

Community engagement is underway to raise the profile of Squirrel Gliders in the region and engage landholders to participate. With a current focus on remnant roadside habitat and public reserves, the surveys will expand to include private land to also connect these isolated patches.

The surveys are part of Project Platypus’ ongoing project funded through very generous local donations and the Handbury Foundation. The project is part of our collaborative initiative, Glideways in Central Victoria - which includes 9 other projects across the region involving other environment groups.
