Volunteering - Nocturnal Invertebrates

Location: Spring Plains Nature Conservation Reserve, Heathcote. Meet at the corner of Spring Plain track and Chisholm track. See map below.
Equipment: Close toed shoes, long sleeves, hat/sun protection, gaiters

Nocturnal invertebrates play a crucial role in the ecosystem. They fill many ecological niches most of which are various kinds of moth. Some of the moths that we will find in spring plains are strikingly beautiful with voibrant colours and patterns while many are varying shades of brown. The specialised lights have been developed by researchers and will also attract other invertebrates.

This survey involves deploying specialised lights that attract nocturnal invertebrates onto a sheet. Every insect that is attracted to the sheet iis catalogued and unknown or new, to the project, species are photographed
