On-farm Natural Capital and Woodland Birds Webinar

The link between on-farm natural capital and temperate woodland birds. We know agriculture and woodland birds largely like the same land systems, so what can be done to improve the outlook for woodland birds in agricultural landscapes? Natural capital is not a new concept but is gaining traction as a way to convey the importance of ‘nature’ for supporting not just native species and biodiversity, but also agricultural systems and society more generally. This webinar will explore the link between on-farm natural capital and woodland birds, and how we can exploit that for a better future for woodland birds and people.

Presenter
Associate Professor Jim Radford (Department of Ecological, Plant and Animal Sciences, La Trobe University) is a landscape ecologist, ornithologist and central Victorian local, with a passion for biodiversity conservation, especially birds, in agricultural landscapes. Jim led the Farm-scale Natural Capital Accounting project, which developed tools and processes to generate farm-scale Natural Capital Accounts for 50 farms across south-east Australia and relate measures of natural capital to biodiversity and ecosystem service provision.
Jim is a Fellow of Birdlife Australia, past Chair of Birdlife Australia’s Research and Conservation Committee, a member of the North Central CMA Science Panel and Standards Australia Biodiversity Committee, and former Director of Science and Conservation for Bush Heritage Australia.
