Volunteer opportunities

Feel the reward of getting involved

A big thank you to all the volunteers that have supported our work so far this year! Safe to say, our ecosystem is being repaired at a greater scale and speed in Central Victoria, truly thanks to your help.

We are continually looking for more people to get involved in our work. Community driven conservation is underpinned by the groundswell of support that we can create.

Are you interested in getting your hands dirty by volunteering on one of our pilot projects? Or, do you have skills related to fundraising, communications or IT?

There are many ways to help.

Our successful DigiVol Citizen Science program

To support the baseline monitoring and data gathering we completed for our Spring Plains Watershed Repair pilot project (before on-the-ground works began) - we ran a cutting-edge Citizen Science volunteering opportunity through the Atlas of Living Australia's DigiVol platform - which enabled people to identify animals caught on camera using identification guides and a learning algorithm that helps to sift through false triggers.

We are in awe of the 69,876 identifications and about 232 hours spent by 177 volunteers to support our work via this platform.

In a similar vein to this work, we are excited to be partnering on a LaTrobe University project using machine learning to train a sophisticated algorithm to accurately identify Australian species from camera trap images. By contributing our images and data from the field we are helping to shape how our future camera trap images, and those from other Australian research projects, can be more efficiently processed.

Stay tuned for future Citizen Science volunteer opportunities we’ll be running via this platform!
