Workshop Webinar - Ecological Thinning

  • Central Victorian Biolinks Alliance (map)

Join us for our first webinar of 2026, Ecological Thinning in the Goldfields, to gain an in-depth understanding of ecological thinning - a technique to accelerate the recovery of certain types of heavily damaged forest ecosystems.

Ecological thinning is a valuable forest restoration technique that works well in certain circumstances, but is often misunderstood and mis-applied. We’ll go through the ins and outs of how thinning can enable faster repair of damaged forests, when it helps and when it harms, and all the considerations that go into planning its application.

This webinar will be a more interactive style than usual, with some facilitated discussion throughout as well as our usual Q+A at the end. Participants will be invited to join in and share any knowledge and experience they have with the topic - but if you are coming in with no prior knowledge at all, that's also fine.

This presentation will also introduce our new Goldfields Forest Restoration Project and the role ecological thinning will play in this large-scale effort to help regenerate more than 450 hectares of land across the Central Victorian Goldfields.
